Romeo, Save Me!

Romeo, save me! I've been feeling so alone. I keep waiting for you but you never come. Is this in my head? I don't know what to think. He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said Marry me, Juliet. You never have to be alone. I love you and that's all I really know. I talked to your Dad. Go pick out a white dress. It's a love story. Baby, just say yes.

These are lyrics from my new favorite song "Love Story" by Taylor Swift. Seriously I love it and I listen to it all the time! I just like it because of the irony. What does Romeo save Juliet from since eventually she dies? I guess you can die happy but it still didn't make her free. I'm not a pessimist, I do think that love can save you if you act on it, just not stupidly. Love is a two person commitment, which Romeo and Juliet do play out quite nicely in the end, but I guess I think it means planning and trusting that the other person loves you too and that they will come through for you. Do you think that if Romeo had just waited a little bit longer for Juliet to wake up, they could have eventually proved their love to everyone else and they could have had their happy ending? I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like this as an alternate ending for Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers and I want this kind of ending for my life too. See I really am an optimist....or maybe just a romantic?
